The CKA Book Club meets monthly, typically on the Third Wednesday of each Month, at Noon. If you would like to be a part of the book club, please email the office at office@kolamielmira.org.


Game Day with the JCF

Game Days will continue on Tuesday, December 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the CKA library. Bring a friend for an afternoon of fun and games. Games will be provided, or feel free to bring one of your favorites!


Sisterhood Chanukah Dinner and Shabbat Service

Friday December 27, at 6 pm.

Join us on December 27, 2024 for the annual Sisterhood Chanukah Dinner!

The festivities begin at 6 pm with the lighting of the Menorah. We are continuing our tradition of B.Y.O.M. (Bring your own Menorah).

Then at 6:30 pm, enjoy a Kosher meal, including Latkes, applesauce, sour cream (both dairy and non-dairy available), Cheese balls, Falafel, and the fixings, and of course, who could forget the Suffganiot?! RSVP's are now closed, so hopefully you got yours in!

Then at 7:30 pm, stick around for a joyous Shabbat Service celebrating both Shabbat and Chanukah in Community! We hope to see you there!

On January 22nd of 2008, Temple B’nai Israel under the leadership of Rabbi Mimi Biatch, joined with Catholic Charities to start a monthly program to prepare and serve meals at the Elmira Community Kitchen for the area’s at-risk population. To honor the numerous community folks who have given their time and money to make this Mitzvah a reality every month for the past 18 years, we will hold a special Shabbat service and Oneg. Please join us to celebrate and to honor this wonderful occasion.


Sisterhood Trivia

Join us for a Trivia Night filled with challenging questions, laughs and prizes! Pizza, soda and wine will be served for dinner, and popcorn and nuts will be provided during the game. 

There will also be a 50/50 Raffle!

It's six people to a team, we can help you find a team if needed! Emcees for the game will be our own John Goldman and Cheryl Miller! RSVP to the CKA Office by January 6, at noon, to receive the discounted price. Make checks payable to CKA Sisterhood.


Made of Iron, The Dina Jacobson Story

Sunday January 19, 2:00 pm

Author Adam Knight will talk about his book “Made of Iron, The Dina Jacobson Story," which chronicles the life of Dina Jacobson, z”l, a CKA congregant, a JCF member, and a beloved community member who survived the Shoah and beat the odds to come to America and start a new life. 
Dina passed in 2014 and has had films and songs written about her.
Adam will discuss the process of interviewing her, his research, and writing her story.

JCF January Movie "Treasure"

Sunday January 26, 2 pm

Set in 1990, this is the story of an American journalist who travels to Poland with her father, Edek, to visit his childhood places. But Edek, a Holocaust survivor, resists reliving his trauma and sabotages the trip creating unintentionally funny situations. Enjoy some popcorn and some Polish-inspired fare along with the movie!

CKA Office

Office Hours: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm; Monday-Friday

The CKA Office Will be Closed on December 25th and 26th in observance of the Holidays. We will return to normal operation on Friday, December 27th.

Staff leave the office from 12 pm to 1 pm daily for lunch. Calls and Emails received during this time will be returned as soon as possible upon staff return.
